After guiding Miami University's women's basketball team to the program's first MAC Tournament Championship and first NCAA Tournament appearance, head coach Maria Fantanarosa was voted the Columbus Dispatch Women's Ohio Coach of the Year, voted on by all women's basketball coaches in the state of Ohio.

 

Fantanarosa earned eight first-place votes and 31 total points, which was 11 more points than Cleveland State's Kate Preston Abiad. First-place votes were worth three points, second-place votes were worth two points and third place votes were worth one point.

 

Fantanarosa has a career-record of 161-133 at Miami and she is the winningest coach in Miami women's basketball history.
